Job Description

The Transmission & Subsea Telecom Engineer is responsible for supporting the operations, configuration, and maintenance of transmission and submarine cable systems. The role includes the installation, configuration, commissioning, and operational support of active transmission networks such as SDH, DWDM, and OTN, as well as subsea cable equipment including Power Feed Equipment (PFE) and Submarine Line Terminal Equipment (SLTE).The engineer will help ensure high network availability, operational reliability, and service continuity across terrestrial and submarine transmission infrastructure.Key ResponsibilitiesTransmission & Subsea Network OperationsOperate, monitor, and support backhaul transmission systems (SDH, DWDM, OTN) and submarine cable systems (PFE, SLTE) in accordance with vendor standards and NOC procedures.Perform installation, configuration, and commissioning of optical transmission equipment from multiple vendors.Integrate new equipment into the existing transmission infrastructure to ensure seamless operation.Testing, Monitoring & TroubleshootingConduct end-to-end system testing and site acceptance to verify deployments meet design and performance standards.Monitor the health and performance of DWDM and SDH networks using Network Management Systems (NMS).Perform testing, troubleshooting, and L1/L2/L3 fault resolution.Support fault restoration, emergency repairs, and maintenance activities to maintain service continuity.Network Performance & OptimizationMonitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure optimal network performance.Identify recurring issues and support network optimization activities, including traffic rerouting and protection path switching to improve resilience.Operational SupportProvide on-site and remote support to the Cable System Network Operations Center (NOC).Conduct daily system health checks and preventive maintenance activities.Maintain configuration, commissioning, and operational documentation.Maintain an accurate inventory of Cable Landing Station (CLS) equipment and critical spares, including tracking usage, availability, and lifecycle status.Coordinate with equipment vendors for technical support, hardware replacements (RMA processes), and SLA-related matters.Required Skills & QualificationsEducationBachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related fieldExperience & Technical SkillsExperience in operations and maintenance of transmission systems and submarine cable networks.Strong knowledge of OTN, DWDM, SDH, IP networking, and submarine cable systems.Experience with network monitoring and management platforms (NMS).Proficiency in optical testing equipment such as:OTDR / COTDROptical Spectrum Analyzers (OSA)Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Ability to work under pressure during network outages and operational incidents.Good communication and coordination skills for working with vendors and NOC teams.#J-18808-Ljbffr
