Job Description

Middle School / High School English TeacherACS International School Doha (ACS Doha)Position OverviewACS Doha is seeking an engaging and skilled English Teacher to join our Middle School and High School team. This role requires a teacher who can develop strong readers, writers, and critical thinkers through a rigorous, standards-based program aligned to American and IB frameworks.Our English teachers foster a love of language and literature while holding students to high expectations in reading, writing, speaking, and analysis. At ACS Doha, teaching is grounded in strong relationships, purposeful planning, and responsive instruction.Key Responsibilities1. Planning & Preparation for LearningDesign and deliver standards-aligned units in reading, writing, speaking, and listening (AERO/Common Core and IB MYP/DP where applicable)Develop clear learning objectives, success criteria, and aligned assessmentsPlan units around essential questions, themes, and authentic texts (literature and informational)Build coherent writing instruction across genres (narrative, argumentative, analytical, and research)Anticipate student misconceptions in reading comprehension, writing, and language useDifferentiate instruction to support a wide range of learners, including EAL studentsUse Toddle and other platforms to organize and communicate learning2. Classroom Environment & ManagementCreate a classroom culture that values voice, respect, and intellectual risk-takingEstablish clear expectations for behavior, participation, and academic integrityBuild strong, respectful relationships with studentsImplement consistent routines that maximize learning timeFoster student independence, accountability, and ownership of learning3. Delivery of InstructionDeliver clear, structured, and engaging lessons in reading, writing, and discussionModel and explicitly teach reading strategies, writing processes, and analytical thinkingUse a variety of instructional approaches (close reading, workshop model, discussion protocols, direct instruction)Engage students in meaningful discourse, critical thinking, and textual analysisPromote a growth mindset and resilience in writing and revisionAdapt instruction based on student understanding and performanceConnect texts and themes to real-world contexts and diverse perspectives4. Assessment, Feedback & Follow-UpUse formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress in literacy skillsProvide timely, specific, and actionable feedback on student writing and thinkingUse rubrics and exemplars to clarify expectations for high-quality workSupport students in revision, reflection, and goal-settingUse data to adjust instruction and provide targeted support or extensionCollaborate with colleagues to analyze student work and improve instruction5. Family & Community EngagementMaintain consistent communication with parents regarding student progress and expectationsShare both positive updates and areas for growthBuild respectful relationships with families from diverse backgroundsRespond promptly and professionally to parent communicationContribute to school events, literacy initiatives, and community engagement opportunities6.
