Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTIONProvides safe, effective, evidence‑based and comprehensive services in the evaluation and treatment of patients with Speech, Language, Cognitive, Fluency, Voice, Swallowing and Feeding Disorders and Associated Communication problems. Responsible for leading a team of Speech‑language pathologists/therapists.RESPONSIBILITIESInvestigates skills and broad knowledge of evidence‑based and standardized assessments together with sound analytical clinical reasoning skills in order to form a baseline measure or differential diagnosis from which to plan appropriate intervention for various swallowing, speech and language disorders for pediatrics or adults.Provides specialist assessment and treatment for various swallowing, speech‑language disorders e.g. Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing, Videostroboscopy, Electropalatography (EPG), Vital Stim therapy, Nasometry, as necessary.Assesses complex/undifferentiated abnormalities (e.g. second opinions) and develops the necessary treatment plans.Enhances the performance and capability of others through formal and informal interactions and skilled coaching techniques.Monitors equipment and device usage, flags any misuse, and authorises maintenance or backing case study to replace faulty items.Maintains a necessary inventory of supplies for assigned room or workstation, rotating stock in an orderly fashion and eliminating outdated items.Manages and reports shortages of materials to supervisor at the earliest convenience, ordering and approving replenishments when necessary.Supervises junior staff and ensures their adherence to rules and policies as applied and implemented in the section/department/facility.Maintains a high control over infection, safety and health regulations and ensures that all concerned parties follow the same.Participates in the daily management of workload allocation within the specialist area, taking into account changing/competing demands and making decisions about prioritisation of caseloads.ACCOUNTABILITIESLeads project managing the development of new business cases and/or options appraisals in agreed areas.Assists in providing managerial leadership for both clinical and non‑clinical issues through consultation and joint work with all grades of staff within the SLT services.Leads and works with the Speech‑language pathology or therapy team to provide an efficient and effective high‑quality service, including but not limited to being involved in the proposal/development and implementation of department/section policies, the annual business plan, the development of future strategies to improve the service, accreditation surveys, audits of services and staff, development and monitoring of performance indicators, compliance with productivity and revenue cycle management targets, etc.Manages the Speech‑language pathology or therapy team including objective setting, appraisals, training, duty rosters, annual leave, supervision and reflective practice, delegation of tasks, etc.Manages at a service level the efficient workload allocation, making decisions about prioritisation of caseloads.Ensures sufficient inventory of equipment and consumables for performance of duties, including ordering and approving replenishments when necessary.QUALIFICATIONSRequired:NLT 4 years of post‑graduate experience in the field of Speech and Hearing Sciences or in Speech‑Language Pathology.Evidence of specialist knowledge, NLT 1 year demonstrated leadership experience.Desired:N.A.Educational Qualification:Recognised Bachelor’s in Speech‑language pathology or similar accredited course.Or BSc in Communication or Psychology or Linguistics and Master’s programme in speech‑language pathology from an accredited educational institution, college or university.AND current national licence or membership.Preferred: Master’s in Speech‑language pathology or similar accredited course (will reduce 1 year from the required years of experience).Desired:N.A.ABOUT USAt SSMC, we firmly believe that the human touch is a fundamental part of care.
