The Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer is considered a specialist in the field of Mechanical (Eng) and offers a broad base of knowledge about the Engineering Function. They impact the direction and resource allocation of programs and projects in their discipline and work within general functional areas.Key Tasks and ResponsibilitiesPerform conceptual, FEED, and detailed analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes, and standardsDevelop creative and innovative solutions that are reliable and cost‑effective for problems and challenges when they ariseApply expertise to the most complex problemsManage own time to meet objectives and, as Lead Engineer, forecast and plan resource requirementsDevelop and manage plans to achieve business objectivesClearly communicate and explain highly complex ideas and anticipate potential objections, influencing outcomesWhen acting as Lead Engineer:Direct large Mechanical Engineering teamsLead the discipline engineering design of the assigned work area and complete it within the planned schedule and budgetPlan, organize, and direct all aspects of discipline execution on the assigned project, including scope, deliverables, schedule, and workforce resourcesEnsure interfaces and deliverables are clearly identifiedMaintain responsibility for progress and productivity, identifying corrective action when neededAct as project representative for the discipline during meetings with the Project Team, Customer discipline lead, and relevant agenciesBecome fully familiar with the project scope of work, specifications, schedule, and all inter‑discipline requirementsInterpret contractual requirements as they relate to engineering executionIdentify changes to scope and promptly raise change notifications, providing supporting documentation and estimatesProvide similar support for Variation OrdersInterface with all disciplines to develop clash‑free designsInterface with other departments to obtain input for discipline designs and drawingsMaintain close coordination with other engineering disciplines, Planning, and Project Management Team as requiredDocument substantive communications and forward copies to Discipline Lead Engineer and Discipline ManagerPrepare estimates for bid proposals, including technical query reviews, execution statements, and man‑hour estimatesRaise technical queries to obtain missing information, clarify work scope, and maintain preferred procedures, specifications, and standardsPrepare, review, and, as Lead Engineer, approve discipline engineering design basis, philosophies, and technical specificationsParticipate in finalizing deliverables lists and deliverables, ensuring compliance with specifications and functional integrityReview project schedule and fabrication schedule in relation to construction sequence, milestones, and engineering scopeAttend project kickoff and review meetings, vendor meetings, engineering meetings, and offshore site surveys as requiredProvide technical direction and review of designers producing products related to Mechanical EngineeringPrepare, review, and, as Lead Engineer, approve design reports and proceduresAssist in providing necessary design inputs to other disciplines to enable them to proceed with their deliverablesAssist procurement personnel in procuring discipline equipment, materials, and services, ensuring compliance with customer objectives and proceduresAssist in updating weight reports based on receipt of vendor informationReview and approve vendor and subcontractor submittals, checking for compliance with project specificationsReview and approve design verification through single‑discipline check / inter‑discipline check (IDC)Provide technical support to fabrication queriesKeep the Discipline Manager and Project Management Team apprised of all activities and concerns, technical, budgetary, and workforce‑relatedAssist in providing inputs for actual, planning, and forecasting progress reports, including associated productivityCheck final subcontractor and vendor data manuals to ensure all requested data has been received and approvedPresent issues and problems to customers in a timely manner and assist the Lead Engineer in negotiating resolution in accordance with project and company requirementsPerform (as required) Technical Quality Audit reviews in accordance with global proceduresAssist Lead Engineer with responses to customers and other agencies on their review and approvalCapture lessons learned and enter into the lessons learned systemProvide leadership, mentoring, and guidance to other engineersSupervise and guide assigned engineers and coordinate with project Lead Designers for discipline engineering and design deliverablesAssig
