Job Description
Job OverviewThe Manager Welding Engineering role requires an in-depth understanding of Welding concepts, theories, and principles and basic knowledge of other related disciplines. The Manager Welding Engineering must be able to apply an understanding of the industry to improve effectiveness, provide guidance, and influence processes and policies for the Welding discipline as well as identify and resolve technical, operational, and organizational problems that impact effectiveness. The Manager Welding Engineering impacts the level of service and the Welding team’s ability to meet quality and timeliness objectives. Policies, resource requirements, budgets, and the business plan should guide decisions made by the Manager Welding Engineering.ResponsibilitiesManage the Welding Engineering function for the Fabrication yardGuide the Welding Engineering discipline and Metallurgical consultative welding services to the operations group and PMT for onshore & offshore (Marine structural installations, and offshore hook‑up activities) projectsManage the Welding Engineering‑related function and Metallurgical consultative welding services to the operations group and PMT for onshore & offshore projectsReview the bid inputs provided by the welding engineerHave global recognition amongst the Welding GroupBudget Management for the group and identify training requirementsPart of the Global group and represents the respective regionPoint of contact for any issues related to Welding Engineering functionResponsible for various deliverables from the Welding Engineering group, listed (but not limited to) belowEnsure the development of Project Welding Qualification Execution Plan that defines the full scope of Weld Procedures required, schedule of qualification, quantity of welding consumables, and materials required for qualificationEnsure that proper priorities relevant to project schedules are established and review progressReview and approval of all Project Weld Procedures through direct and indirect communications with the customer and Certifying AuthorityGuide the Welding Engineering group for the selection of electrodes based on their physical, chemical, and corrosion properties as well as considering their weldability and economicsReview project schedules, material control reports, and welding consumable estimates to determine changes to the welding execution planManage welding school facility for the training and development of the workforce to improve the welding methodology and good workmanship practicesAssist in the support and development of automatic welding systemsReview and estimates for bidsWelding consumable project-specific requirements estimation, requisitioning, and monitoringForecast DOE consumablesReadiness review for important offshore campaignsWork with Fabrication Management, Yard Welding Dept, Marine group for future R&D developments and the latest technology available related to welding of Ferrous and Non‑Ferrous materialsMaintain contacts with internal and external technical groups such as Global Welding Group, TWI, DNV, EWI, Welding Equipment and Consumable manufacturers, and similar organizations for updates on the latest technologyAssist in resolving Metallurgical, Welding, and Quality related problems, by investigating causes of failures and prescribing fit‑for‑purposeInitiate 'Fit for Purpose' evaluations of non‑conforming workEvaluate the performance of Welding Engineer direct reports and make decisions regarding their training needs, changes in classification, and/or compensationVisit the vendor’s facility for technical evaluationEnsure input for bidding is given through the Welding Engineering GroupMonitor projects during the execution stageOwn and lead the implementation, enforcement, and verification of compliance with all McDermott policies and proceduresEnsure employees understand their responsibility and authority to effectively implement the requirements of all McDermott policies and proceduresEnsure the timely completion of all mandatory training by themselves and their teamsQualificationsMS/M Tech /ME in WeldingBS/BE/B Tech in Welding/Metallurgy/Mechanical Engineering12+ years directly related to Welding, Metallurgy and Materials, subsea pipelines.C Eng./SenMemWeldI/Member of Professional body preferredWelding Inspection Qualification preferredAbout UsOur ingenuity fuels daily life.
