Job Description

OverviewThe Senior Electrical Engineer uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the electrical discipline within McDermott. They act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share conceptual and practical expertise related to the electrical discipline. The Senior Electrical Engineer solves complex problems and uses discipline-specific knowledge to improve products or services. The role impacts a range of customers, operational, project, or service activities with the electrical team and other related teams, ensuring work within the appropriate guidelines and policies.ResponsibilitiesPerform conceptual, FEED, studies, and detailed analyses and design as per design basis, project specifications, design codes, and standards.Apply knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.Prepare clear and accurate detailed design calculations and analyses including design reports and procedures.Manage own time to meet agreed deadlines and budgets, and develop plans for short-term work activities in own area.Clearly communicate and explain complex issues to establish understanding.Apply thorough working knowledge to prepare and oversee the development of key project deliverables, including (but not limited to):Specifications and DatasheetsElectrical Load ListOne-line diagramsMotor control schematicsElectrical building and equipment layoutsBills of MaterialCable sizing calculationsConceptual studies and calculationsRelay CoordinationCost and planning studiesLead Project Development and Coordination, including (but not limited to):Maintain and promote a focus on McDermott’s end-product throughout engineering, fabrication, or constructionFunction as electrical engineering project lead or electrical task leadBecome familiar with the project scope of work, basis of design, specifications, and scheduleReport to and coordinate with the electrical engineering lead, project engineering manager, and electrical department managerSupervise and coordinate with electrical engineers and designersMaintain close coordination with other discipline engineers and with the Client’s engineerCarefully evaluate, communicate, and manage change with full awareness of project impactAssume responsibility for cost, schedule, quantity and budget controlLead the development and support of vendor packages, including (but not limited to):Create, issue, and manage requisition packages for Substations, Transformers, and Electrical materialsCreate, issue, and manage subcontract packages for Heat Tracing, Cathodic Protection, and Electrical InstallationPerform and coordinate the review of supplier documents for electrical and non-electrical packagesCoordinate and supervise the Inspection and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of electrical equipment, motors, and associated skidsLead Site Support, including (but not limited to):Lead off-site and/or on-site technical support to Construction personnelManage all site issues and coordinate with office personnel to resolve issues as neededProvide detailed technical support and supervision for Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of electrical equipmentProvide detailed technical assistance for pre-commissioning, energization, commissioning, and start-up, as required by the projectReports to: Project: Lead EngineerFunctional: Supervising Engineer or Engineering ManagerLiaise with: All Engineering disciplines, Fabrication Group, Safety Dept, Document Control, Procurement Group, Subcontractors and Vendors, and CustomersSupervises: Electrical EngineersQualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Engineering or another technical degreePrefer PE certificate of registrationAccredited engineering degree may be required by specific regions8-15 years of experience of detailed electrical engineering experienceStrong working knowledge of many design techniques, and analysis methods, and detailed knowledge of the content and application of standards, codes, and guidelines, including NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and ANSI, and the latest scientific and engineering methodsTechnical knowledge of the detailed design engineering processProject coordination and execution skillsIntermediate experience with Smart Plant Electrical (SPEL), ETAP, and MS Office Suite including Excel and WordAbout UsOur ingenuity fuels daily life.
