Job DescriptionAldar Education is currently seeking a School Counsellor (Immediate Start) for Al Shohub Private School, part of our growing family of owned and operated schools in the UAE.Al Shohub Private School is a British curriculum, mixed‑gender primary school located in a purpose‑built educational facility at Khalifa City A, Abu Dhabi. We nurture individual talents and foster a warm, inclusive community where collaboration among students, parents and educators is encouraged.This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly successful Aldar family of schools and help shape the future of Abu Dhabi’s leading school group.ResponsibilitiesHelp students enhance personal, social, and academic growth and wellbeing.Monitor the progress of individual students.Make contact with parents to discuss student behaviour or support needs.Take steps to prevent bullying and support victims.Help students develop job‑search skills, such as resume writing and interviewing techniques.Help students understand and deal with social, behavioural, and personal problems.Deliver therapeutic intervention based on individual needs and provide referral to external services as needed.Emphasise preventive and developmental counselling to provide life skills before problems worsen.Provide special services such as conflict‑resolution classes; identify cases of domestic abuse and other family problems that can affect a student’s development.Work with students regarding career options and provide appropriate information.Assist in providing students with information for career exploration and selection to aid academic course choices.Maintain an appropriate library/database of career information for students.Coordinate access to university affairs and university applications.Work with individual students and groups regarding social, emotional and developmental issues.Maintain awareness of cultural influences on adolescent development and deliver culturally sensitive therapies.Monitor at‑risk students and make appropriate referrals for external interventions in consultation with parents.Promote wellbeing via whole‑school and community initiatives.Work closely with the pastoral team and safeguarding leads.QualificationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor of Science / Education in Social WorkBachelor of CounsellingBachelor of Psychology with subsequent post‑graduate counselling qualificationsDCD LicenceBilingual proficiency (spoken and written) requiredMinimum ExperienceMinimum of 2 years’ experience in school counselling or other counselling experience required.Job Specific Knowledge & SkillsAppropriate license to carry out student counselling.Strong interpersonal skills with both students and parents.Demonstrable organisational skills.Strong desire to help others and ability to inspire respect, trust and confidence.Must possess high emotional and physical energy to handle a wide range of problems.Maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and professionalism.Aldar Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.
