About the RoleOryx University invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant position in Geotechnical Engineering under a competitively funded research project supported by QRDI. The role is suited to a highly motivated candidate with strong experimental, analytical, and numerical modelling capabilities, who can actively contribute to advanced geotechnical research activities.Key ResponsibilitiesIndependently perform advanced geotechnical laboratory testingEnsure laboratory testing is conducted in accordance with relevant standards and best practicesAnalyse experimental results, interpret soil behaviour, and provide technical commentary and recommendationsIdentify testing or data-related issues and take corrective or improvement actions when requiredContribute to the modification and optimisation of laboratory testing proceduresPerform numerical modelling and analysis using PLAXIS 2 DPrepare high-quality technical and research reports, including data interpretation and discussionSupport literature reviews and contribute to research outputs linked to project objectivesWork collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team while maintaining a high level of independenceRequirementsEssential QualificationsBachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a strong Geotechnical Engineering backgroundMaster’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering (highly preferred)Demonstrated hands‑on experience with triaxial (UU, CU, CD) and direct shear testingExperience in laboratory data analysis and interpretationWorking knowledge of PLAXIS 2 DStrong technical writing, documentation, and reporting skillsAbility to work independently, manage laboratory activities, and meet project deadlinesDesirable AttributesResearch‑oriented mindset with strong attention to detailExperience working in experimental research laboratoriesStrong problem‑solving and decision‑making skillsGood communication and teamwork abilities
