Job Description As an Oracle-Site Reliability Engineer at Barclays, your role will involve effectively monitoring and maintaining the bank's critical technology infrastructure. You will be responsible for resolving more complex technical issues while minimizing disruption to operations. Barclays is not just anticipating the future; we are actively creating it.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provision of technical support for the service management function to resolve more complex issues for a specific client or group of clients. You will develop the support model and service offering to enhance customer service.
- Conduct preventative maintenance tasks on hardware and software, utilizing monitoring tools and metrics to identify, prevent, and address potential issues for optimal performance.
- Maintain a knowledge base with detailed documentation of resolved cases for future reference, self-service opportunities, and knowledge sharing.
- Analyze system logs, error messages, and user reports to identify root causes of hardware, software, and network issues. Provide resolutions by fixing or replacing faulty hardware components, reinstalling software, or applying configuration changes.
- Implement automation, monitoring enhancements, capacity management, resiliency, business continuity management, front office specific support, and stakeholder management.
- Identify potential service impacting risks and issues, remediate or escalate through appropriate processes. Proactively assess support activities, implementing automations where appropriate to maintain stability and drive efficiency. Actively tune monitoring tools, thresholds, and alerting to ensure timely issue resolution.
Qualifications Required:
- 10+ years of proven experience as a Senior Level Oracle Database Administrator.
- Expertise in telemetry, monitoring, and platform observability tooling (e.g., ESAAS, Grafana, Prometheus) with experience in customizing and scaling these solutions.
- Experience in implementing modern DevOps and SRE practices in enterprise environments.
- Proven expertise in SQL query optimization and database performance tuning at scale.
- Strong collaboration skills with executives and cross-functional teams.
- In-depth experience working with large, distributed, high-performance, high-availability databases with 24/7 uptime.
- Expert knowledge of Oracle database administration, including versions 11g, 12c, 19c.
- Hands-on experience with DevOps automation tools such as git, JIRA, Ansible, Containers, Kubernetes (OpenShift), and database CI/CD tools.
- Recognized as an Oracle subject matter expert, serving as the technical escalation for complex database issues.
- Extensive experience in database migration strategies at enterprise-scale.
- Excellent spoken and written English communication skills.
