The role ensures that all mechanical engineering deliverables comply with project specifications, international codes (API, ASME, etc.), safety standards, and quality requirements. The engineer will coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, vendors, and clients to achieve project objectives safely, on time, and within budget. 2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES Design & Engineering: Prepare, review, and approve mechanical engineering deliverables including equipment specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews. Develop and check mechanical drawings (general arrangements, piping layouts, equipment layouts) using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent software. Perform mechanical calculations (stress analysis, load ratings, thermal expansion, etc.) as required. Ensure designs comply with international codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, NFPA, ASTM, etc.) and client specifications. Installation & Commissioning: Oversee and supervise mechanical equipment installation (pumps, compressors, vessels, heat exchangers, tanks, piping systems, rotating equipment, etc.) at site. Coordinate pre-commissioning and commissioning activities, including preparation of procedures, checklists, and punch lists. Troubleshoot mechanical issues during installation, startup, and operational phases. Ensure proper alignment, lifting, rigging, and bolting procedures are followed. Project Coordination & Site Support: Collaborate with civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines to resolve clashes and ensure integrated design. Provide technical support to procurement, fabrication, construction, and QA/QC teams. Attend site inspections, HAZOP meetings, design reviews, and progress meetings. Review contractor/subcontractor shop drawings, method statements, and ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans) from a mechanical perspective. Compliance, Safety & Quality: Ensure all mechanical activities comply with project HSE requirements, permit-to-work (PTW) systems, and company safety policies. Participate in risk assessments (JSA, HAZID) and ensure engineering controls are implemented. Maintain accurate documentation: as-built drawings, equipment logs, test reports, and change orders. Vendor & Client Coordination: Interface with equipment vendors and suppliers to ensure technical compliance and resolve delivery or quality issues. Respond to client technical queries (TQ) and coordinate with client engineering representatives. 3. QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Education: Bachelor's degree (B.E. / B Tech) or higher in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university. Experience: Minimum 5+ years of relevant experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, refinery, power, or heavy industrial projects. Proven experience in mechanical equipment installation and commissioning (rotating and static equipment). Site-based experience is highly preferred. Technical & Software Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar 2D/3D design software. Working knowledge of ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM, and other international codes. Familiarity with piping systems, pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and material selection. Knowledge of welding symbols, piping isometrics, P&IDs, and equipment layouts. Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication (written and verbal) and team coordination abilities. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced project environment. Good report writing and documentation skills. Certifications (Preferred but not mandatory): UPDA/MMUP certification (for Qatar roles) PMP / Project Management certification NEBOSH / IOSH or other HSE training
