Macroeconomist (African Markets) - competitive salary - Abu Dhabi, United Arab EmiratesA global investment organisation with a strong presence across emerging and frontier markets is seeking an experienced Macroeconomist to join its growing macro research team. The firm applies a rigorous, research-driven approach to macroeconomic and financial market analysis, supporting investment decision-making across multiple asset classes and geographies. It has an established international footprint and is continuing to build its presence in the Middle East through a newly expanded Abu Dhabi office.This role offers a rare opportunity to join a developing regional hub at an early stage, working in a highly analytical, fast-paced environment alongside senior investment professionals and contributing directly to regional and global macro-driven investment views.RoleThe role is based in Abu Dhabi and sits within a macro-focused research team supporting investment activity across emerging and frontier markets. The position is well suited to an economist with strong macroeconomic foundations who is looking to deepen their buy-side exposure, working closely with experienced portfolio managers and senior economists.The role will focus on macroeconomic analysis across a range of African frontier and emerging markets, with an emphasis on economies across East, West, and Central Africa. Familiarity with, or interest in, additional frontier regions outside Africa would be viewed as a bonusKey ResponsibilitiesDeliver macroeconomic analysis across a defined set of African frontier and emerging marketsProvide economic, political, and structural context to support regional investment viewsForecast core macro variables including growth, inflation, fiscal positions, and external balancesAnalyse monetary policy frameworks and central bank reaction functionsEvaluate the relationships between covered countries and developments in the global economyContribute to investment discussions by translating macro insights into actionable perspectivesPresent country and thematic research to portfolio managers and the wider investment teamCollaborate closely with colleagues across Abu Dhabi and other global officesKey Skills4-6 years’ experience in a macroeconomic analysis experience specifically within African countriesBackgrounds from buy-side, sell-side, investment banks, research institutions, central banks, or hedge funds are all welcomeStrong academic training in macroeconomics, economics, or a related quantitative disciplineSolid quantitative and analytical capability, with experience using tools such as EViews, STATA, SPSS, and advanced ExcelClear communicator, comfortable presenting economic views to investment professionalsHigh learning agility and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, intellectually demanding environmentFluency in English required; additional languages beneficialJoin a growing Abu Dhabi-based investment hub at an early stageDirect mentorship from senior Africa-focused economists and portfolio managersExposure to global macro investing across multiple asset classesHigh level of responsibility and visibility relative to experienceCompetitive compensation package and long-term development potentialThis role is ideal for an economist with strong emerging or frontier market foundations who is ready to step into a more investment-facing environment.
