Job Description

Job DescriptionWood is recruiting a Senior Technical Safety Engineer to strengthen the team in Sharjah, UAE. The role may involve occasional visits to Iraq if required by the client.Key Accountabilities & ResponsibilitiesThorough knowledge of Technical Safety & Loss Prevention engineering methodologies for FEED, Detail Design, Construction, Commissioning, and plant Start‑up.Perform safety screening of project scopes.Conduct Hazardous Area Classification, safety layout assessment, and emergency escape route assessment.Fire engineering tasks such as Fire Zone determination, firewater demand calculations, and firewater network hydraulics.Prepare reports for HAZOP, HAZID, SIL studies, and other safety workshops when required.Perform Physical Hazard Effects (PHE) modelling and review Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA).Conduct F&G mapping.Coordinate with other disciplines throughout design development, construction, pre‑commissioning, and start‑up.Provide technical support to site as required.Produce and review specifications, data sheets, schedules, study reports, and design calculations ensuring compliance with engineering quality and project management systems.Attend client meetings and communicate issues with lead engineer as required.Stay informed about relevant regulatory frameworks, legislation changes, initiatives, and industry technology developments.Maintain awareness of international codes and standards.Maintain personal competence and pursue continuous professional development.Be willing to make occasional visits to Iraq.QualificationsBEng or equivalent with relevant experience.Chartered Engineer or recognized equivalent preferred.Experience in Concept / FEED / Detail Engineering project phases.8‑10 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry.Prior experience working in the Middle East an advantage.Experience in flare systems design is mandatory.Strong knowledge and experience using FlareSim and DNV Phast.BenefitsMeaningful and challenging projects for high‑profile clients, including complex projects in Iraq.Competitive salary with regular reviews aligned with market rates.Commitment to continued professional development with tailored development plans.Medical insurance covering inpatient and outpatient care.Group life and personal accident insurance.Employee Share Plan with company match.Long Service Award recognising milestones at 5‑year intervals.Diversity StatementWe are an equal opportunity employer that recognises the value of a diverse workforce.
