Lead Optical Engineer – Defense IR/Visible Camera Systems

Location: Abu Dhabi (Relocation Provided)Employment Type: Full-TimePosition Overview:The Senior Optical Engineer is responsible for the overall technical authority, design, and performance of optical systems, particularly for defense-related applications. This role involves translating functional requirements into innovative optical designs, performing trade-off analyses, and developing conceptual designs for both visible light and IR cameras. The position leads the integration and testing of optical components and subsystems, supervises optical labs, and mentors junior engineers and technicians.Take the overall technical authority, responsibility and accountability for the optical designs.Ability to derive a design from functional requirements.Perform trade-off analysis based on the functional requirementDevelop optical conceptual design and support optical fabrication requirementGenerate technical documentation such as design description, design performance analysis reports, technical notes, assembly proceduresLead Integration and testing of optical components subsystemLead department engineers, technician and technologist.Support the development of optical subsystems that encompass industrial/mechanical designUse ZEMAX to perform design and analysis for optical componentsOptical system analysis and modelling utilizing programming and software toolsDevelop models and simulations of key optical subsystemsDesign or selection of the adequate lenses from the functional requirementDesign optical elements for both visible light and IR camerasSetup the optical laboratory for the development project conceptsDesign relevant optical lab tests, including test definition, equipment, and data analysis.Periodic progress reporting to the board directors and stakeholdersWriting and defense of new project proposalMentorship and training of junior technical personnel.Support Accountabilities:Optical labs supervisionPurchase of optical equipmentSupervision the setup of a clean room and optical benchesWork closely with the opto-electronics team in the design of multiple types of camerasInvolvement in the optical sensors selectionExperience:20+ years of industrial experience in optical design in close relation to the defense sectorExpert in working with optical elements and lenses elements designExpert level in the use of ZEMAX toolsTrack record of design of IR cameras for defense sectorProven leadership and innovation skillsKnowledge / Qualification:PhD or Master’s degree in Physics or Optics#J-18808-Ljbffr
