Junior Tunnel Engineer

Through our member companies, including SMEC and Robert Bird Group, we deliver high-impact engineering and design solutions across transport, water, energy, and cities.**About the Role**: We are seeking a Junior Tunnel Engineer with hands-on experience in tunnel design, including structural support systems and permanent lining.**Key Responsibilities**:* Support detailed tunnel design, including structural support and permanent lining systems* Assist in analysis, design computations, and preparation of technical reports* Prepare specifications, proposals, and engineering documentation* Coordinate with geotechnical, structural, and other design disciplines* Contribute to design reviews and ensure outputs meet required technical standards* Support project delivery in line with time, cost, and quality expectations* Assist in tender preparation and technical submissions**Requirements**:* Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering* 3-6 years of experience in tunnelling or underground infrastructure projects* Exposure to tunnel design, including lining and support systems* Familiarity with relevant design standards and engineering practices* Experience with design and analysis tools (e.g. PLAXIS, MIDAS, or similar) is an advantage* Strong communication and coordination skills* Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment**Why Join SJ** Join a global, multidisciplinary consultancy shaping sustainable, people-centric environments across 40+ countries.
