Through our member companies, including SMEC and Robert Bird Group, we deliver high‑impact engineering and design solutions across transport, water, energy, and cities.About the RoleWe are seeking a Junior Tunnel Engineer with hands‑on experience in tunnel design, including structural support systems and permanent lining.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport detailed tunnel design, including structural support and permanent lining systemsAssist in analysis, design computations, and preparation of technical reportsPrepare specifications, proposals, and engineering documentationCoordinate with geotechnical, structural, and other design disciplinesContribute to design reviews and ensure outputs meet required technical standardsSupport project delivery in line with time, cost, and quality expectationsAssist in tender preparation and technical submissionsRequirementsBachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering3‑6 years of experience in tunnelling or underground infrastructure projectsExposure to tunnel design, including lining and support systemsFamiliarity with relevant design standards and engineering practicesExperience with design and analysis tools (e.g. PLAXIS, MIDAS, or similar) is an advantageStrong communication and coordination skillsAbility to work in a multidisciplinary team environmentWhy Join SJJoin a global, multidisciplinary consultancy shaping sustainable, people‑centric environments across 40+ countries.
