Job Description

Job Title: Instrument & Control Technician – GE Gas Turbines (Shutdowns & Major Inspections)Location: Qatar (Onsite)Duration: LongtermJob SummaryExperienced Instrument & Control Technician responsible for maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting GE/Baker Hughes Frame 6, 7 & 9 heavy‑duty gas turbines and their auxiliary systems during Major Inspection (MI), Hot Gas Path (HGP), and Combustion Inspection (CI) campaigns. Ensures accurate measurement, control, and protection system functionality in accordance with OEM, Qatar Energy LNG, and RLIC safety standards.Key ResponsibilitiesExecute field maintenance and calibration of turbine and auxiliary instrumentation.Perform pre‑shutdown instrument verification and tool preparation.Support control‑system isolation, de‑energization, and reinstatement activities.Calibrate pressure, temperature, flow, level, and vibration transmitters.Conduct loop‑checking from field device to control room.Verify integrity of turbine protection circuits and trip systems.Assist in testing of LVDTs, servo valves, and proximity probes.Replace and align speed sensors and vibration pickups.Carry out Combustion Inspection (CI) instrumentation scope under GE procedures.Support Hot Gas Path (HGP) inspections for thermocouple and RTD replacement.Implement Major Inspection (MI) calibration program and documentation.Download and interpret Mark V/VI/VIe diagnostic alarms.Use Toolbox ST / Control ST for configuration verification.Interface with DCS/ESD systems for signal validation.Perform function tests of fuel‑gas control valves and servo feedback.Troubleshoot analog and digital I/O faults.Inspect and clean instrument tubing, manifolds, and impulse lines.Replace faulty transmitters, switches, and gauges.Verify turbine purge, seal‑oil, and lube‑oil instrumentation.Calibrate flow elements for fuel and air systems.Maintain records of all calibration certificates.Participate in Permit‑to‑Work (PTW) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) processes.Apply Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out (LOTO) procedures on energized equipment.Support OEM engineers in logic verification tests.Conduct resistance and continuity tests on signal cables.Verify grounding and shielding of instrumentation circuits.Perform instrument air‑quality checks and regulator adjustments.Install temporary instruments for performance testing.Validate turbine vibration‑monitoring system readings.Execute zero/span adjustments on pneumatic instruments.Align and test pneumatic and hydraulic actuators.Maintain and calibrate fire & gas detection devices in turbine compartments.Verify calibration of flame detectors and UV sensors.Inspect instrument junction boxes and terminations.Support commissioning after maintenance completion.Record results on approved QA/QC forms.Close all punch items related to instrumentation.Assist in spare‑part identification and requisition.Ensure correct use of precision calibration equipment.Manage tool control and return per QA system.Participate in daily coordination and safety meetings.Maintain compliance with Qatar Energy LNG safety rules.Report deviations, unsafe acts, and near‑misses.Implement best practices for instrument housekeeping.Support reliability improvement initiatives.Assist electrical and mechanical teams during cross‑discipline tasks.Provide technical feedback for “As‑Found/As‑Left” conditions.Support turnaround documentation and QA dossier compilation.Maintain turbine control system integrity during overhaul.Observe environmental protection procedures (spill, waste segregation).Skills & Technical CompetenceStrong knowledge of GE/BH Frame 6, 7 & 9 Speedtronic systems (Mark V/VI/VIe).Skilled in Toolbox ST, FieldCare, and HART configuration tools.Experienced with smart transmitters (Rosemount, Yokogawa, ABB).Able to interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, and cause‑and‑effect matrices.Competent in fault tracing within control and protection circuits.Familiar with Bently Nevada 3500 vibration systems.Knowledge of servo valve calibration and null‑bias tuning.Understanding of instrument hazardous‑area classification (Ex d, Ex e, Ex i).Familiar with IEC 61508 / 61511 instrument safety standards.Competence in pneumatic and hydraulic schematics.Proficient in loop simulation using portable calibrators.Knowledge of gas detection systems and analyser calibration.Basic understanding of NDT and vibration trending correlation.Capable of reading OEM maintenance manuals and datasheets.Skilled in instrument cable glanding and termination.Understanding of network communication (Modbus RTU/TCP).Experience with fieldbus and 4‑20 mA instrumentation.Ability to produce clear calibration and inspection reports.Strong teamwork and communication in multi‑cultural environments.Proven performance under shutdown time constraints.HSE and Compliance ResponsibilitiesComply with Qatar Energy LNG PTW and LOTO systems.Complete all mandatory RLIC site inductions (Riverhuak).Attend daily toolbox and pre‑task safety meetings.Follow Working at Height and Confined
