Job Description

ADVANCED CONCEPTSis an entity within EDGE dedicated to the design and deployment of advanced, innovative technologies. ADVANCED CONCEPTS is fast-tracking the development of high-technology autonomous systems, including three Medium Endurance, High Altitude, fixed-wing unmanned aerial systems, a family of precision loitering munitions, a cost-effective family of cruise missiles, and a range of guided artillery munitions.Provide technical assistance and support in all metallurgy-related queries.Lead and contribute to the specification, evaluation, and development of metallic materials including aluminum, titanium, steels, and nickel-based alloys.Collaborate with cross-functional teams in materials science, mechanical design, and manufacturing to ensure materials meet mission and performance requirements.Assess and validate material performance in representative environments to ensure compliance with defense and aerospace standards.Contribute to technical documentation, including material data sheets, test reports, and design support documents.Participate in design and project reviews, ensuring material considerations are integrated early in the development process.Assist in troubleshooting material-related issues during component fabrication, system testing, and field evaluation phases.Support regulatory and quality compliance in accordance with international and defense-specific material standards (e.g., ASTM, MIL, AMS).Contribute to process improvements in metallurgical testing, material qualification, and failure analysis methods.ExperienceMinimum 5 years of relevant experience in metallurgy or materials engineering, with at least 3 years in the defense or aerospace sector.Proven track record in metallurgical testing, heat treatment, and microstructural characterization.Hands-on experience in laboratory environments, including:Sample preparation and microscopy (SEM/EDX, XRF, OES).Mechanical testing (tensile, fatigue, hardness, and impact testing).Familiarity with defense material standards, specifications, and qualification processes (MIL-STD, AMS, ASTM).Knowledge / QualificationMaster’s or PhD degree preferred in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related engineering discipline.Good understanding of microstructure, heat treatments, metals processing and testingExperience of working in the aerospace industryExpertise in metallic materials including aluminum, titanium, steels, and nickel alloys.Strong understanding of microstructure–property relationships, heat treatments, and failure mechanisms.Analytical and problem-solving skills related to material performance and failure analysis.Proficiency in material characterization and validation techniques.Excellent communication, teamwork, and mentoring abilities.Experience working within classified defense environments or controlled material development programs is highly desirable.#J-18808-Ljbffr
