Data Center Facility Engineer, AWS role at Amazon Web Services (AWS)Job OverviewAWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.Key ResponsibilitiesSafetyFollow and maintain the highest safety standards and diligently encourage a world‑class safety culture. As a facility owner team, ensure remediation of safety risks/issues in conjunction with other teams. Own the safety initiatives and projects to foster a strong safety culture.Engineering & Facility Operations and MaintenanceYou will support electrical and mechanical equipment, including Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS’s), Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS's), Diesel Generators, Chillers, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), Exhaust Fans, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD's), and Transformers. Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, emergency generators, HVAC, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center. Troubleshoot facility and rack‑level events within internal SLAs, perform root cause analysis of equipment failures, and drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.Day in the LifeWork rotational shifts of 4 days of 12‑hour shifts (2 days followed by 2 nights) and 4 days off (including night, weekends and holidays). Respond to on‑call rotation reaction to off‑duty emergency calls.Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log‑taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.).Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance.Perform tasks such as occasionally moving objects/materials, working in outdoor weather conditions, noisy environments, at heights and from ladders.Basic QualificationsBachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, project management, construction management, or a similar technical focus.Knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, controls).Knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory.Preferred QualificationsExperience in data center engineering.Experience leading and managing operations of critical facilities requiring in-depth knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.Knowledge of BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending.Benefits and CultureAmazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform.
