This role focuses on tutorial and laboratory instruction, supporting students’ understanding of both materials science theory and hands‑on laboratory practice.The successful candidate will play a key role in guiding first‑year engineering students through core concepts in materials engineering and developing their practical laboratory skills.Subject OverviewENGG103 introduces students to the fundamental principles of materials engineering, emphasizing the interrelationship between structure, properties, processing, and applications of engineering materials.Core topics include:Atomic structure and interatomic bondingImperfections in solidsMechanical properties of metalsDislocations and strengthening mechanismsFailure modes: fracture and fatiguePolymers and compositesThermal and electrical propertiesCeramicsKey Teaching ResponsibilitiesKey ResponsibilitiesDeliver tutorials and laboratory classes in ENGG103Support student learning through explanations, demonstrations, and guided problem‑solvingSupervise and support laboratory sessions, includingMechanical testingFailure analysisAssist with assessment activities including marking and feedback, in line with subject requirementsEnsure safe laboratory practices and adherence to university policiesCollaborate with the subject coordinator and teaching teamThe candidate is expected to work in accordance with the course curriculum and teaching plans, as well as take attendance and be involved in marking.Offer consultation times to students outside of classroom hoursLiaise with subject coordinator before, during and at the end of the semester sessionComplete grading of student work in a timely fashion, using clear rubrics, and with constructive feedback-Input the grades into the student interface software (SMP), and complete subject report for the end of semester (training will be provided)-Manage the acquisition of necessary suppliesExperience in using innovative approaches to teaching is also desirable.Selection criteria – Qualifications, Education, Experience, Knowledge and SkillsA Master’s degree in Engineering, preferably with a Civil Engineering backgroundExperience teaching or supporting materials science fundamentals at undergraduate levelDemonstrated laboratory teaching competence, particularly in:Mechanical testingFailure analysisStrong communication skills and an ability to engage first‑year students effectivelyPrior experience teaching undergraduate engineering subjectsFamiliarity with outcome‑based education and assessment practicesAbility to manage multiple tutorial and laboratory sessions efficientlyThe successful candidate will enjoy interaction with a professional dynamic team of highly respected educators from more than 50 different countries and exposure to students from over 100 nationalities.The University
