This is not a passive advisory role; you will be an embedded operator focused on ensuring legal supports the business in scaling, rather than blocking it. This role exists to ensure:</p><ul><li>Legal work is handled quickly, accurately, and commercially.</li><li>Contracts facilitate operations and revenue rather than slowing them down.</li><li>External counsel is managed selectively as a support tool, not as the default engine.</li><li>Legal processes are built for scale, repeatability, and high velocity.</li></ul><p>This is not a passive advisory role, this is an<b>execution‑first legal operator embedded in the business</b>.</p><h3>Key Responsibilities</h3><ul><li><b>Contract Drafting&Negotiation:</b>Own the end‑to‑end drafting and redlining of merchant agreements, partner/acquirer contracts, and vendor agreements. You will work directly with stakeholders to close deals efficiently, ensuring terms are clear, enforceable, and commercially aligned.</li><li><b>Internal Legal Execution:</b>Act as the primary owner for day‑to‑day legal work. You will handle contract updates and internal queries personally, engaging external counsel only for highly specialized expertise or jurisdictional complexity.</li><li><b>Commercial Legal Alignment:</b>Ensure legal decisions support deal velocity and revenue generation. You will work within the realities of payments economics and risk constraints, providing practical alternatives rather than simply flagging blockers.</li><li><b>Systems&Scalability:</b>Build and maintain standard contract templates, clause libraries, and pre‑approved fallback language. Your goal is to ensure 80%+ of contracts are handled via structured templates to eliminate repetitive manual work.</li><li><b>Regulatory&Structural Support:</b>Collaborate with leadership and external advisors on entity structures and jurisdictional considerations. You will provide internal guidance on the legal implications of operational decisions and risk‑v vs reward trade‑offs.</li><li><b>Cross‑Functional Collaboration:</b>Partner closely with Partnerships, Risk, Finance, and People teams. You will ensure legal is embedded into the execution of the business, staying aligned on the economic and operational impact of all terms and liabilities.</li></ul><h3>Key Requirements</h3><ul><li><b>Commercial Legal Expertise:</b>Proven experience as a legal counsel within a high‑growth fintech or fast‑paced commercial environment. You understand how to balance legal protection with commercial momentum.</li><li><b>Payments Knowledge:</b>Familiarity with payments economics, including fee structures, reserves, and liability frameworks. You understand the “why” behind commercial terms.</li><li><b>Drafting Precision:</b>High proficiency in drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts with a focus on clarity and scalability.</li><li><b>Execution Mindset:</b>A track record of handling the majority of legal work internally. You prefer doing the work to managing others doing it.</li><li><b>Process Orientation:</b>Experience building or improving legal systems—such as template libraries or automated workflows—to increase consistency and speed.</li><li><b>Strategic Judgment:</b>The ability to provide clear reasoning and practical alternatives when pushing back on terms.
