Associate - Bridges & Tunnels

WSP is seeking an experienced Associate – Bridges & Tunnels to support and lead the delivery of bridge and tunnel design projects in Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will combine strong technical expertise with growing leadership and client‑facing responsibilities, contributing to both project delivery and the development of WSP’s structural capability in the Emirate.This role is suited to a well‑established bridges engineer with proven experience working with Abu Dhabi‑based clients and authorities, who is ready to take on increased ownership of projects and teams.ResponsibilitiesLead and manage the design delivery of bridge and tunnel projects across concept, preliminary, and detailed design stagesUndertake and review complex structural design and analysis in accordance with Abu Dhabi and UAE standardsCoordinate and manage design inputs from multidisciplinary teams, ensuring technical integration and consistencySupport and lead authority submissions, addressing comments and ensuring timely approvalsInterface directly with Abu Dhabi clients and authorities, providing technical advice and design leadershipReview and approve design calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications prepared by the project teamProvide technical guidance, mentoring, and oversight to senior and junior engineersIdentify technical risks and constraints and implement appropriate mitigation strategiesSupport value engineering initiatives and design optimisation to improve cost‑effectiveness and constructabilityAssist Project Managers with programme planning, resourcing, and quality managementContribute to bid preparation, technical proposals, and early‑stage project developmentEnsure all work is delivered in line with WSP’s quality management systems, safety standards, and sustainability commitmentsQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master’s degree preferred)15+ years of relevant experience in bridges and tunnels design within a consultancy environmentDemonstrated experience delivering Abu Dhabi‑based bridge projects and working with local authoritiesStrong working knowledge of AASHTO, Eurocodes, UK Standards, and applicable UAE / Abu Dhabi guidelinesProven ability to lead packages of work and manage design teamsProficiency with industry‑standard structural and bridge design software (e.g. MIDAS, LUSAS, RM Bridge, CSI Bridge, or equivalent)Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards chartership (ICE, IStructE, or equivalent)Strong technical writing, communication, and coordination skillsFluent in English; Arabic is an advantageImagine a better future for you and a better future for us all.Join our close-knit community of talented individuals who share your passion for making a positive impact.
